Frequently asked questions.
What is a "Move Manager" and how are they different from a "Mover?
To understand the difference between a 'Mover' and a 'Move Manager,' it helps to begin by explaining the difference between a 'move-day' and a 'move project.'
Move-day: A 'move-day' is the day when the movers show up with the moving truck. They remove all items from the home, load the truck, drive to the new home, and unload the truck. When they leave, the furniture should be in the right rooms, and all boxes should be inside the home, however, the home is far from 'settled.'
Move Project: A 'move project' is every task and action associated with moving. It begins the day you decide that you're going to move. It includes planning timelines, figuring out what furniture will or will not fit into the new home and how to arrange it. Deciding what to take, packing every box, scheduling the movers, coordinating with the key players for moving into the new home, communicating with the realtor about selling the old home, managing the move-day, unpacking all the boxes, putting every possession away in the new home, etc... until every empty box is broken down and removed and every item in it's new place in the new home, and the old home is fully cleaned out and keys are in the hands of the realtor.
Movers are key players on one critical day, but Move Managers are project coordinators helping you make the entire transition go quickly and smoothly. They're trained and experienced at every stage of the transition process, they have relationships with auctioneers, non-profit donation sites, realtors, home repair companies, etc. Senior Move Managers are a class of move managers that have gone through additional training to work with seniors who are downsizing and transitioning.
Why should I select Smooth Transitions instead of having my family help me move?
Family members often have careers or other obligations leaving them limited time to help declutter and pack a home. This is our full time job. Our goal is to have your treasures sorted and packed quickly while showing the same care your family members would.
How much do you charge for your services?
Since each client is unique, we provide a complimentary 1-hour initial consultation. We will view your home, listen to your desires, help you evaluate your needs, and design a proposal that fits your goals. A no obligation, good faith estimate will be provided to you as part of the proposal. Fees are based on an hourly rate and expenses will vary dependent upon services selected.
My family member needs to move quickly, can you help us?
We know how difficult it is when a family member needs to move quickly, and we are here to help. Call us today to schedule a free 1-hour consultation so that we can understand the unique needs of your family member and help them move quickly.
Do you only move seniors?
No. We help those of all ages that are downsizing, need to declutter, or need to relocate. We treat all of our clients, regardless of their reason for the move, with the compassion needed to ensure that they are comfortably settled into their next home.
Why should I work with your team?
Each of our team members are uniquely trained and must have the heart of a servant to work under our brand. We believe in recognizing the individual needs and wishes of each of our clients and will always handle their personal items with care. We are known in our markets to be the Senior Move Managers that seek to “go the extra mile” by hanging each photo with thought and care, while also being sure to have every technology plugged in and ready for use from the moment it is unpacked. We want you to feel and be at home, from the moment you step into your new space.
